Job description

Position: ABA/ Healthcare Authorizations Specialist Location: Fully Remote – South Africa Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST Holiday Structure: 6 US public holidays + 6 additional days Salary: R 26,500–30,000

About the Opportunity

We're looking for a highly organised, reliable and exceptionally detail-oriented ABA Authorizations Specialist to join a growing healthcare team.

In this role, you'll be responsible for supporting the authorisation process for healthcare services, ensuring that information is accurately submitted, tracked and followed up on with insurance providers.

This position requires someone who takes pride in accuracy, enjoys structured and repetitive administrative tasks, and can manage important responsibilities consistently without needing constant supervision.

Previous ABA experience is not required. However, a background in medical billing, insurance authorisations or healthcare administration would be advantageous.

Above all, we're looking for someone dependable, proactive and committed, with excellent communication skills and the ability to pick up new processes quickly.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with submitting and managing authorisation requests for ABA services.

• Ensure all patient and provider information is captured accurately, including dates, Tax ID numbers and NPI numbers.

• Review documentation and authorisation requests for accuracy and completeness.

• Follow up with insurance companies regarding pending authorisations and outstanding information.

• Communicate professionally with insurance representatives over the phone and through written correspondence.

• Monitor authorisation statuses and maintain accurate records and tracking systems.

• Follow up on outstanding requests to help prevent delays in service approvals.

• Identify missing or incorrect information and take the necessary steps to resolve discrepancies.

• Assist with drafting appeal letters when required.

• Maintain consistent follow-through to ensure time-sensitive authorisation tasks are completed.

• Work independently while keeping the wider team informed of outstanding matters.

Requirements & Essential Skills

• Previous experience in medical billing, insurance authorisations or healthcare administration would be advantageous, but is not essential.

• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when working with dates, Tax ID numbers and NPI numbers.

• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage repetitive, detail-heavy tasks.

• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

• Confident telephone manner and strong phone skills for insurance follow-ups.

• Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly and apply instructions independently.

• Strong administrative and data-capturing skills.

• Reliable, consistent attendance and a strong sense of accountability.

• Ability to manage time-sensitive tasks and follow through without constant supervision.

• Professional, hardworking and committed approach to responsibilities.

Advantageous Experience

The following experience would be beneficial:

• Medical billing experience.

• Prior authorisation or insurance verification experience.

• Experience working with healthcare providers, insurance companies or medical practices.

• Familiarity with ABA therapy or behavioural health services.

• Knowledge of NPI numbers, Tax ID numbers and healthcare provider information.

• Experience drafting insurance appeal letters.

• Experience handling insurance follow-ups and resolving authorisation delays.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is someone who is naturally organised, exceptionally detail-oriented and dependable.

This role involves repetitive administrative work where accuracy is critical. We need someone who enjoys structured processes, can retain information, learns quickly and consistently applies what they've been taught.

Communication is equally important. The successful candidate must be comfortable speaking with insurance representatives, following up on outstanding requests and communicating clearly with the team.

Reliability and attendance are particularly important, as delays in authorisations can directly affect providers and their ability to continue delivering services to clients.

We're looking for someone who takes their responsibilities seriously, works hard, communicates proactively and can be trusted to get the details right.
